The relationship between asthma and depression in a community-based sample

Journal of Asthma Feb 28, 2019

Akula M, et al. - In 2,168 participants in the Dallas Heart Study, researchers assessed the link between asthma diagnosis, existing depressive symptoms, and lifetime psychiatric disorder history. In a large, diverse, community-based sample of people intended to represent the Dallas County population, they determined the link between asthma diagnosis with both history of a psychiatric disorder and with the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology scores by using logistic regressions, controlling for demographic data. Findings highlighted the possible association between asthma diagnosis and current clinically significant levels of depressive symptoms and a lifetime psychiatric disorder. Clinically, considering the possibility of psychiatric illness in asthma patients appeared important.
