Associations between food insecurity and prediabetes in a representative sample of U.S. Adults (NHANES 2005–2014)

Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Feb 22, 2019

In this study, researchers assessed the connection between food insecurity and prediabetes, and also identified specific subgroups for early clinical intervention via analyzing cross-sectional data from 25,814 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for years 2005–2014. They used multivariable logistic regression to analyze the link between food security status and laboratory-confirmed prediabetes. According to results, food insecurity at any level is positively related to prediabetes in the general adult population of the United States. The investigators recommended targeting food-insecure young adults, especially those within the 20-34 year age range, for early clinical intervention.
