Huang JY, et al. - Using a 10-year follow-up study, investigators examined the risk for open-angle glaucoma (OAG) among 17,283 subjects with migraine in Taiwan. They noted the following 3 significant risk factors for OAG in migraineurs: age, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes mellitus. After adjusting for the age of candidates and vascular comorbidities, they observed 1.68-fold greater risk of developing OAG in migraine cases than the comparison cohort, in subjects with an age-adjusted Charlson’s comorbidity index (ACCI) score of 0. An association of migraine with a greater risk of OAG for subjects with no comorbidity, under 50 years of age was also recorded.
