Association between psoriasis and dementia: A population-based case–control study

American Journal of Clinical Dermatology Jan 20, 2019

Lin CC, et al. - Using the Taiwan Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2000, authors identified and assessed 7,118 individuals with dementia and 21,354 sex- and age-matched controls (those with bullous pemphigoid) to examine the association between dementia and psoriasis. After adjusting for individuals’ monthly income, region, urbanization level, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and coronary heart disease, the investigators noted an odds ratio (OR) of 1.46 for diagnosed psoriasis. Whereas the ORs for those with previous psoriasis diagnosed with arthritis and without arthritis were 1.95 and 1.44 times that of the control group, respectively. Overall, findings indicated that previous incidence of psoriasis was present in those with dementia.
