Identification of six cardiovascular risk biomarkers in the young population: A promising tool for early prevention

Atherosclerosis Jan 18, 2019

Martínez PJ, et al. - Since cardiovascular (CV) risk in the young/middle-age population is underestimated, researchers sought to assess a molecular profile with added value to classical CV risk estimation among 81 subjects (30–50 years). Based on the CV risk, subjects were classified as healthy subjects, individuals with CV risk factors, and those who had suffered a previous CV event. They identified 4,309 proteins of which 75 differentially expressed. ADX (adrenodoxin), ECP (eosinophil cationic protein), FETUB (fetuin B), GDF15 (growth differentiation factor 15), GUAD (guanine deaminase) and NOTCH1 (neurogenic locus notch homolog protein 1) comprise a fingerprint positively associated with lifetime risk estimate (LTR QRISK). This six-protein-panel seems as valuable for CV risk assessment.
