Aspirin for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in diabetes

Journal of Diabetes Investigation Jan 17, 2019

Xing Y, et al. - Since cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in people with diabetes, researchers have investigated the role of aspirin in the primary prevention of CVD in people with diabetes. Aspirin is commonly used in the treatment and prevention of CVD and the efficacy of aspirin in the secondary prevention of CVD in people with or without diabetes is well established. Although diabetes increases the cardiovascular risk that aspirin could have a greater benefit, it remains unclear whether there is a clear net benefit of aspirin in the primary prevention of CVD in people with diabetes.
