Shen Y, et al. - Data obtained from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III database were assessed to determine the correlation between loop diuretic use and hospital mortality in critically ill candidates with vasopressor support by using multivariable logistic regression and propensity score matching. In the positive fluid balance (FB) subcategory, diuretic use was noted significantly linked to decreased mortality. They observed no association of diuretic use and mortality among the other subgroups of mean arterial pressure, maximum sequential organ failure assessment score, and lactate level. They noted that 1463 cases from each group were well matched after propensity score matching. They recorded a significantly lower mortality rate in the diuretic use group.
