Efficacy of lateral bone augmentation prior to implant placement: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Clinical Periodontology Jan 14, 2019
Naenni N, et al. - Investigators assessed 553 study participants to study the efficiency of lateral bone augmentation before implant placement as well as bone-width gain outcomes. They observed a positive impact of smaller bone dimension over larger bone-width gain, indicating the positive results of the application of primary lateral bone augmentation on a severe lateral bone deficiency. They also noted the impact of recipient site (maxilla or mandible) and individuals' age over graft resorption. They suggested the summation of a xenograft to autogenous graft for reducing the graft resorption vs autograft alone.
