Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with breast cancer in nonobese women

Digestive and Liver Diseases Jan 15, 2019

Kwak MS, et al. – In this study involving 270 breast cancer patients and 270 control participants, researchers studied the relationship between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and breast cancer. The also examined the relationship between obesity and NAFLD in patients with breast cancer. Eligible study participants received health screening, including mammography and breast and hepatic ultrasonography simultaneously. For this investigation, conditional logistic regression analyses were performed. According to findings, NAFLD was significantly linked to breast cancer independent of traditional risk factors, and was evident in non-obese vs obese study participants. Significant effect modification was observed between obesity and NAFLD in breast cancer when the interaction between obesity and NAFLD in breast cancer patients was investigated.
