Periodontitis as a risk indicator and predictor of poor outcome for lacunar infarct
Journal of Clinical Periodontology Jan 10, 2019
Leira Y, et al. - Researchers analyzed 120 cases of lacunar infarct (LI) to examine the relationship between periodontitis (PD) and LI and also to estimate if PD could be a predictor of poor functional prognosis in subjects with LI. They calculated the periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) for every participant. They observed a periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) value ≥727 mm2 as an independent predictor of poor prognosis, after adjusting for clinical confounders. A poor consequence was perceived in 31 cases with LI (25.8%), of which 90.3% had PD and subsequently, an association was found between PD and the presence of LI.
