Circulating microRNA-1 in the diagnosis and predicting prognosis of patients with chest pain: A prospective cohort study

BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Jan 10, 2019

Su T, et al. – In this study involving 341 patients attacked by chest pain within 3 hours and 100 healthy volunteers, researchers examined the early diagnostic and prognostic value of microRNA-1 in acute chest pain cases. Two groups of patients (acute myocardial infarction [AMI] group comprising 174 patients and non-AMI group with 167 patients) were followed for 720 days, and circulating microRNA-1 was measured. With an optimal cutoff value of 2.215, early diagnosis of AMI was significantly enabled by microRNA-1. In combination with cardiac troponin I, its diagnostic accuracy could be improved. They found that, it was not statistically significant for microRNA-1 to forecast future AMI but might prognose mortality of 720 days in those with chest pain. Overall, they concluded that early AMI diagnosis and prognosis prediction in patients with chest pain might be achieved with the assessment of circulating microRNA-1.
