Mohta M, et al. - Experts assessed the effective dose of phenylephrine and norepinephrine for management of post-spinal hypotension, and the potency of norepinephrine compared to phenylephrine. They treated 100 consecutive patients who developed post-spinal hypotension with a predetermined dose of either phenylephrine or norepinephrine. A predetermined dose of either phenylephrine or norepinephrine treated 100 consecutive patients who developed post-spinal hypotension. They noted about 11 times more potency of norepinephrine than phenylephrine. Findings suggested that when used as bolus doses for treatment of hypotension, 100 μg phenylephrine should be approximately equivalent to 8.8 μg norepinephrine.
