Qiu Y, et al. - Including 100 nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) cases and 111 age and sex frequency-matched controls, researchers assessed the association of circulating adipsin, visfatin, and adiponectin with NAFLD in a Chinese population. They used unconditional logistic regression to evaluate the links between quartiles of adipokines and NAFLD. They found a positive association of circulating adipsin levels with NAFLD risk, and an inverse association of circulating levels of visfatin and adiponectin with the risk of NAFLD, in multivariate logistic analysis adjusting for potential confounders. Overall, increased circulating levels of adipsin and decreased circulating levels of visfatin and adiponectin were independently related to the increased risk of NAFLD.
