The use of bisphosphonates after joint arthroplasty is associated with lower implant revision rate
Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy Dec 17, 2018
Ro DH, et al. - Experts studied the presumption that the use of bisphosphonates (BPs) after total joint arthroplasty (TJA) is related to a lower implant revision rate. They gauged the association between BP use and the revision rate of TJA and ascertained the relationship between the medication period and the revision rate of TJA. They reviewed the National Health Insurance Service data on surgeries, medications, diagnoses, and screenings of 50 million Koreans. Findings suggested an association of the use of BPs after TJA with a lower revision rate. The risk of revision was further reduced by the use of BPs for more than one year. In order to reduce the revision rate of TJA, bisphosphonate use can be highly recommended.
