Characterization of patients with ibuprofen hypersensitivity

International Archives of Allergy and Immunology Dec 17, 2018

Lee EY, et al. - Authors sought to characterize the demographics and clinical course of hypersensitivity reactions in a cohort of patients with ibuprofen allergy. In this cohort of patients, compared to males, ibuprofen hypersensitivity affected females more commonly, and presented with mainly cutaneous manifestations. Findings suggested rapid onset of symptoms. Nonetheless, there was a risk of severe anaphylaxis, reactions typically ranged in severity from mild to moderate. Results demonstrated potential cross-reactivity with other NSAIDs or acetaminophen. A contribution of this study to the understanding of the demographics and clinical course of ibuprofen hypersensitivity reactions was noted.
