Wijk L, et al. – Researchers conducted this pilot study to investigate the relationship between female sex hormones and insulin resistance after hysterectomy. A secondary analysis from a randomized controlled single-center study was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Örebro University Hospital, Sweden. Before surgery, female sex hormonal status was not correlated with insulin sensitivity. Findings revealed that premenopausal women developed a higher degree of postoperative insulin resistance that was related to a relative parallel change in estradiol levels vs postmenopausal women. Whether these are independent phenomena in the overall stress response or whether there is a causal relationship was unclear.
