Homaira N, et al. - In this population-based cohort study, researchers investigated how age at first severe respiratory syncytial viral (RSV) disease is associated with subsequent asthma. For this purpose, they calculated the incidence rates and rate ratios of first asthma hospitalization beyond 2 years of age in children with RSV hospitalization at < 3 months, 3 to < 6 months, 6 to < 12 months, and 12 to 24 months. Observations revealed the highest burden of RSV in children aged < 6 months; however, the burden of subsequent asthma is higher in children developing RSV disease at ages ≥ 6 months.
