The effect of glycemic control on cardiovascular disease in individuals with type 2 diabetes with pre-existing cardiovascular disease - A systematic review and meta-analysis
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Nov 20, 2018
Barer Y, et al. - In this study involving a subset of individuals with type 2 diabetes and pre-existing cardiovascular disease (CVD), researchers determined the cardiovascular (CV) effect of intensive glucose control vs standard of care. They identified randomized controlled trials that compared the impact of intensive glucose control to standard glucose control on incident CVD in type 2 diabetics via a search of the Medline, the Cochrane library, EMBASE and the NIH Trial registration databases. A total of 8 trials representing 8,339 study participants were included in the analysis. According to the results of this systematic review and meta-analysis, intensive glucose control vs standard care had a neutral effect on incident CV events in individuals with diabetes and pre-existing CVD.
