Efficacy of vitamin D replacement therapy in restless legs syndrome: A randomized control trial

Sleep and Breathing Nov 18, 2018

Wali SO, et al. - Researchers performed this 12-week randomized, placebo-controlled trial to investigate whether vitamin D supplements could be efficacious for decreasing restless legs syndrome symptom severity. They randomized 35 subjects with restless legs syndrome (which was diagnosed using the International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group criteria) to either oral vitamin D (50,000 IU caplets) or placebo. They used the International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group rating scale for clinical assessments. They monitored the change in the restless legs syndrome severity score from baseline to week 12 (primary endpoint). They found no improvement in restless legs syndrome symptoms following vitamin D supplementation.
