Survival after the diagnosis of de novo malignancy in liver transplant recipients

International Journal of Cancer Nov 01, 2018

Taborelli M, et al. - Researchers conducted this nested case-control study to determine the impact of de novo malignancies (DNMs) on survival of liver transplant (LT) recipients vs corresponding LT recipients without DNM. Study participants included 2,818 LT recipients enrolled in nine Italian centers between 1985 and 2014. Findings revealed that DNMs had a detrimental effect on the survival of LT recipients vs matched LT recipients without DNM. The investigators noted all-cancer 10-year survival rates of 43% vs 70% in control participants. Except for Kaposi's sarcoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer, all of the most frequent cancer types displayed this pattern consistently.
