Association between ideal cardiovascular health and markers of subclinical cardiovascular disease (CVD)

Shpilsky D, et al. - Using data from the Heart Strategies Concentrating on Risk Evaluation (Heart SCORE) study, researchers examined the link between ideal cardiovascular health (CVH) and markers of subclinical cardiovascular disease (CVD). They assigned 1 for each of the ideal CVH factors met. They used the Endo-PAT device to record endothelial function. Using electron beam computed tomography they estimated coronary artery calcium and using carotid ultrasonography they assessed carotid intima-media thickness. Lower burden of subclinical CVD was observed in relation to achieving 3 or more ideal CVH factors in this community-based study with low prevalence of ideal CVD
