Takeuchi M, et al. - For diagnosing uterine sarcomas, researchers assessed the value of susceptibility-weighted MR sequences (SWS). For the presence of high intensity areas on T1-weighted images and signal voids on SWS (T2 star-weighted angiography), they retrospectively evaluated MR imaging of 10 surgically proven uterine sarcomas and 24 benign leiomyomas. They found that the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity for SWS were 97%, 100%, and 96%, while for T1-weighted images, they were 82%, 40%, and 100%, respectively. In patients suspected with uterine sarcomas, the demonstration of intra-tumoral hemorrhage by SWS might give valuable diagnostic findings.
