Comparing 4-mm dental implants to longer implants placed in augmented bones in the atrophic posterior mandibles: One-year results of a randomized controlled trial
Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research Oct 17, 2018
Rokn AR, et al. - In the atrophic posterior mandibles, researchers assessed the effectiveness of 4-mm implants vs longer implants. They looked at 11 patients with bilateral atrophic mandibles who were rehabilitated with two to four 4-mm implants and 10 or 8-mm long implants in augmented bone using Guided Bone Regeneration procedure. Findings suggested similar outcomes of 4-mm implants and long implants in augmented bone 1-year after loading, so in atrophic mandibles, short implants might be a feasible treatment. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups. In five augmented sites of the patients, there were eight complications, and in the short implants sites, no complication was noted.
