Association between psoriasis and sexual and erectile dysfunction in epidemiologic studies: A systematic review

JAMA Oct 15, 2018

Molina-Leyva A, et al. - This systematic review of 28 studies representing 52,520 cases of psoriasis and 1,806,022 controls, researchers assessed available scientific evidence regarding epidemiologic associations and treatment outcomes between psoriasis, sexual dysfunction (SD), and erectile dysfunction (ED). Compared with a healthy population independent of physical and psychological comorbidities, patients with psoriasis were found to have a greater risk of SD and ED, with findings suggesting that psoriasis might play a role in its development. Features that demonstrated the strongest relationship with SD in patients with psoriasis included anxiety and depression, psoriatic arthritis, and genital psoriasis. The authors also noted that biologic therapies have been shown to improve SD in patients with psoriasis.
