Risk factors for post-thrombotic syndrome in patients with deep vein thrombosis: From the COMMAND VTE Registry

Heart and Vessels Oct 11, 2018

Nishimoto Y, et al. – Researchers identified and assessed risk factors for patients with post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) also with a diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) through multivariable logistic regression analysis. They used a multicenter registry, the COMMAND VTE Registry, that enrolled 3,027 consecutive patients with acute symptomatic venous thromboembolisms (VTEs) in Japan between January 2010 and August 2014. A total of 1,298 patients with lower extremities DVTs who completed 3-year follow-up for those who developed PTS and those without PTS, were included. Chronic kidney disease, leg swelling, absence of transient risk factors for VTEs, active cancer, and thrombophilia were identified as independent risk factors for the development of PTS.
