Boyne DJ, et al. - Researchers conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis of 46,829 Hodgkin and 14,764 non-Hodgkin lymphoma survivors to estimate the long-term risk of cardiovascular mortality among lymphoma survivors vs the general population. This analysis included only observational studies from EMBASE, MEDLINE, and CINAHL databases that evaluated cardiovascular mortality in patients with lymphoma who survived ≥ 5 years from time of diagnosis or those with a median follow-up of 10 years. The estimated pooled number of deaths ascribed to cardiovascular disease was 7.31 and 5.35 times, respectively, that of the general population. This association was found to be greater among Hodgkin lymphoma survivors treated before the 21 years of age. Based on the findings, the investigators recommended cardiovascular screening and prevention campaigns for lymphoma survivors.
