Racial disparities in the presentation and treatment of colorectal cancer: A statewide cross-sectional study

Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology Sep 13, 2018

Rodriguez EA, et al. - Using the International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification codes, this cross-sectional analysis and logistic regression of data for colorectal cancer (CRC) obtained from the 2009 Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration Hospital Admission Database described CRC differences among Hispanic, non-Hispanic black, and non-Hispanic white populations. Findings revealed that, among these racial groups in Florida, disparities in CRC metastases and colectomy rates exist, and suggested that this work should serve as a foundation to study potential causes and design culture-specific interventions.
