Charnock M, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, researchers tested the effectiveness of ultrasound as a screening tool in the assessment of soft-tissue masses referred from primary care as well as examined the incidence of malignancy in this population. Researchers, for the first time, solely focus on ultrasound assessment of musculoskeletal masses referred solely from primary care. The findings from the present study suggested that ultrasound is a highly effective screening tool and can avoid the unnecessary need for further imaging or histopathological investigations and inappropriate referrals to regional sarcoma services. In this patient cohort, malignant lesions are very rare.
