Outcome of hospital outpatient treatment of functional gastrointestinal disorders
Internal Medicine Journal Aug 20, 2018
Basnayake C, et al. - Researchers analyzed the outcomes for patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) who attended a specialist gastrointestinal (GI) clinic. The data presented in this work showed a minority of patients with FGIDs reported improved symptoms one year after attending a specialist GI clinic. Results of this study suggested that the lack of improvement reported by many patients could be related to the nature of patients and conditions being treated or the limited nature and range of treatments offered. It was noted that functional dyspepsia (FD) patients were less likely to be symptomatically improved vs other FGIDs. Findings revealed that the number of visits, seniority of the clinician, duration of care, and co-morbidities did not forecast the outcome.
