A meta-analysis of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) use during prenatal depression and risk of low birth weight and small for gestational age
Journal of Affective Disorders Aug 18, 2018
Zhao X, et al. - Given the common use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) as antidepressants, researchers investigated if SSRIs use during prenatal depression is related to low birth weight (LBW) and small for gestational age (SGA) using a meta-analysis approach. They identified 15 articles involving 1,977,446 subjects that tested the relationship between the SSRIs use, LBW and SGA outcomes. As per findings, SSRIs use is significantly associated with suboptimal fetal growth.
