Perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis in renal transplantation: A single-center comparison between two regimens and a brief survey among the Eurotransplant renal transplantation centers
World Journal of Urology Aug 17, 2018
Bachmann F, et al. - Experts reported the results of both a multiple-dose perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis (PAP) and a single-dose (SD) prophylaxis among Eurotransplant renal transplantation centers. Compared to the previous MD regimen, they noted that single-dose cefazolin had equal efficacy and was less expensive. Findings suggested a less frequent occurence of all-cause infection with multi-resistant bacteria in SD vs MD patients. However, substances and duration varied remarkably, i.v. single-dose cephalosporins (36.9%) were used by a majority of Eurotransplant centers.
