Sim YE, et al. - In this retrospective single-center cohort study, researchers investigated the impact of preoperative anemia, perioperative blood transfusion, and predischarge anemia on function and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in individuals who had traumatic hip fracture surgery from 2012 to 2016 (N=973). Univariate and multivariate analyses were carried out which revealed an association of preoperative anemia (hemoglobin < 10.0 g/dL) with poorer physical function and HRQoL after hip fracture surgery. They found no impact of perioperative blood transfusion and predischarge anemia.
