Tanya B, et al. - In this prospective, noninterventional study, researchers investigated the association of catheter replacement with clinical outcomes in individuals (mean age 79.2±11.5) who had had an indwelling urinary catheter for longer than 7 days and a symptomatic urinary tract infection (UTI). The estimated rate of clinical failure on day 7 and 30-day fatality rate was 35.2% (108/306) and 30.8% (96/315), respectively. No statistically significant link was observed between catheter replacement and clinical failure or 30-day fatality. Overall, they concluded that replacing a long-term catheter at the onset of the catheter-associated UTI was not clinically beneficial.
