Causes of mortality in the Marfan syndrome (from a nationwide register study)
American Journal of Cardiology Jul 29, 2018
Groth KA, et al. - In a nationwide Danish Marfan syndrome (MFS) population diagnosed by the Ghent II criteria, researchers assessed causes of mortality. They used medical records to identify all Danish patients with MFS (n=412, male n=215) in a register-based setting. They also established a gender and age matched control cohort based on 41,000 control persons (male n=21,500). Adjusting for age and calendar time, Cox regression was applied. Findings revealed that the mortality hazard ratio (HR) among MFS vs controls was significantly increased to 3.6. Excluding cardiovascular and respiratory causes of death, no evidence suggested an association between MFS and increased mortality for other reasons.
