Incidence of pathologic postobstructive diuresis after resolution of ureteropelvic junction obstruction with a normal contralateral kidney

Journal of Pediatric Urology Jul 27, 2018

Roth JD, et al. - Researchers ascertained the incidence and characteristics of postobstructive diuresis (POD) after relief of unilateral ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) with a normal contralateral kidney. In patients with a normal contralateral kidney, POD after decompression of UPJO was noted to be a rare event (1.8%). Nonetheless, POD does occur, and because of the potential for significant dehydration and electrolyte disturbances, a careful monitoring of the patients should be conducted after these procedures.
