Levels and prognostic impact of circulating markers of inflammation, endothelial activation and extracellular matrix remodelling in patients with lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

BMC Cancer Jul 22, 2018

Berg J, et al. - Experts evaluated how chronic inflammation was reflected by serum markers in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer (LC) and whether these markers have prognostic value in patients with LC. Findings suggested that, in serum from patients with COPD vs LC patients, several markers reflecting inflammation, endothelial activation and extracellular matrix remodeling were raised. The levels of circulating biomarkers could be influenced by the presence of COPD. Authors noted the association of some of these markers with prognosis.
