Efficacy, effectiveness and safety of vaccination against human papillomavirus in males: A systematic review
BMC Medicine Jul 21, 2018
Harder T, et al. - Researchers searched MEDLINE, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and ClinicalTrials.gov from inception to April 2017 to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in males via a systematic review. The present data indicated that HPV vaccination in males was moderately effective against persistent anogenital HPV infection and high-grade anal intraepithelial lesions in studies where the population consists mainly of HPV-infected males. In study groups comprising HPV-naïve males, vaccine effectiveness was high. A recommendation for vaccination of boys before the onset of sexual activity with the goal of establishing optimal vaccine-induced protection was supported.
