Application of competing risks analysis improved prognostic assessment of patients with decompensated chronic heart failure and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction
Journal of Clinical Epidemiology Jul 19, 2018
Scrutinio D, et al. - Researchers assessed the extent of bias in the Kaplan-Meier method in estimating absolute mortality risk (AMR) in the presence of competing events, and the impact of covariates on the hazard for death and competing events in the clinical model of decompensated chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (DCHFrEF). Participants in the study were 683 patients. Findings revealed that competing risks analysis allows more precisely estimating AMR and better understanding the relationship between covariates and major outcomes in DCHFrEF.
