Armstrong AW, et al. - Using real-world data from psoriasis patients, authors gauged the patient-perceived efficacy of treatment, patterns of medication use (duration, switching, and/or discontinuation), healthcare resource utilization, and medication costs. Data were collected from a HIPAA-compliant dermatology-specific cloud-based database. The highest treatment satisfaction was seen with use of biologics, and systemic monotherapy was associated with less frequent treatment switching vs combination therapy. Loss of efficacy was the most common reason for discontinuing biologics, and side effects was the most common reason for discontinuing oral agents. Clinical and payer decisions regarding the management of psoriasis could be assisted by this study and others utilizing EHRs for real-world research.
