Li X, et al. - In this retrospective study, the researchers compared the clinical features, complications and outcomes between hypertriglyceridemia and biliary acute pancreatitis (BAP). For the purpose of this investigation, 730 acute pancreatitis patients from July 1, 2013, to October 1, 2016, in Jinling Hospital were enlisted. As compared to BAP patients, hypertriglyceridemia acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP) patients were younger, more male, having high fat diet and with higher body mass Index (BMI). Data reported that HTG-AP patients suffered higher occurrence rates of acute kidney injury (AKI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)/deep vein thrombosis (DVT)/multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), while infected pancreatitis necrosis (IPN) was more common in BAP patients. Only the complication of AKI was independently related to the etiology of HTG according to the multivariate analysis. However, higher BMI was found to be related with AKI, ARDS and DVT.
