Hughes KC, et al. - Using enrollees from the Nurses' Health Study, the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, and the Cancer Prevention Study II Nutrition Cohort, authors investigated if genetic variants that modify circulating urate levels are also related to altered Parkinson's disease (PD) risk. Correlations were noted between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in SLC2A9 and plasma urate levels among men and women. However, SNPs in other genes did not appear to be linked with urate. Yielded data did not support an association between genetic variants related to circulating urate levels and risk of PD.
