Comparison of pure lateral and oblique lateral inter-body fusion for treatment of lumbar degenerative disk disease: A multicentric cohort study
European Spine Journal Apr 21, 2018
Miscusi M, et al. - Researchers compared pure lateral (LLIF) and oblique lateral (OLIF) approaches for the treatment of lumbar degenerative disk disease (DDD) from L1–L2 to L4–L5, in terms of clinical and radiological outcomes. For the treatment of lumbar DDD, LLIF and OLIF represented safe and effective MIS procedures. Some risks of motor deficit were seen in the LLIF and monitoring was mandatory, though more the coronal deformities were addressed by it. Risks for motor deficits were not implied by OLIF, but attention ought to be paid to vascular anatomy. Authors noted it to be more effective in kyphotic segmental deformities.
