Multi-institutional survival analysis of incidental pathologic T3a upstaging in clinical T1 renal cell carcinoma following partial nephrectomy
Urology Apr 22, 2018
Russell CM, et al. - Researchers assessed if incidental pathologic T3a (pT3a) upstaging following partial nephrectomy (PN) for cT1 disease resulted in inferior oncologic outcomes compared to pT1a/b disease. When compared to pT1 disease, patients with pT3a upstaging after PN experienced a significantly reduced recurrence-free survival (RFS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). In pT3a disease, recurrence rates were significantly higher than pT1a/b controls. No association between demographic or pathologic characteristics and renal cell carcinoma recurrence was noted on univariate/multivariable analysis of pT3a disease.
