Pilot randomized trial of integrated cognitive-behavioral therapy and neuromuscular training for juvenile fibromyalgia: The FIT Teens program

The Journal of Pain Apr 21, 2018

Kashikar-Zuck S, et al. - During this study, experts gauged the efficacy of a novel intervention (Fibromyalgia Integrative Training for Teens; FIT Teens) which integrated cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with specialized neuromuscular exercise training for enhancing the impact of treatment on reducing pain and disability. Adolescents with juvenile fibromyalgia (JFM) (12–18 years) were randomized to CBT-only or FIT Teens. Considerably greater decreases in pain were brought to light among enrollees in the FIT Teens group vs the CBT group. Furthermore, the FIT Teens candidates displayed marked improvements in disability, which nevertheless, did not vary from CBT-only at the 3-month endpoint. The FIT Teens intervention conferred additional benefits beyond CBT in the treatment of JFM, especially in pain reduction.
