Adiposity at age 10 and mammographic density among premenopausal women

Cancer Prevention Research Apr 21, 2018

Alimujiang A, et al. - Researchers determined the association of childhood adiposity with mammographic density in premenopausal women by analyzing data from 365 premenopausal women who came in for screening mammography at Washington University (St. Louis, MO) from 2015 to 2016. Data from Growing Up Today Study was used to impute body mass index (BMI) at age 10. Adjusted multivariable linear regression models were also used. Adiposity at age 10 was found to be inversely related to volumetric percent density (VPD) and positively related to nondense volume (NDV). A 1 kg/m2 increase in BMI at age 10 was shown to be associated with a 6.4% decrease in VPD and a 6.9% increase in NDV. After adjusting for current BMI, these links reduced, but still remained significant.
