Effectiveness of colorectal cancer screening in detecting earlier-stage disease – A nationwide cohort study in Denmark

Gastroenterology Apr 17, 2018

Larsen MB, et al. - Using data from a register-based retrospective cohort study, authors investigated the effects of fecal immunochemical test (FIT)-based screening for colorectal cancer (CRC) on the number of incident CRC diagnoses and stage at diagnosis for individuals in Denmark who were invited for screening vs not invited. As per the outcomes, inviting individuals to undergo FIT-based CRC screening gave rise to the detection of almost 2-fold more cases of CRC compared to not inviting participants. Owing to the marked rise in the CRC incidence among those invited for screening indicates, a necessity arose for awareness of treatment capacity in countries introducing FIT-based CRC screening.
