6-months clinical outcomes of non-surgical periodontal treatment with antibiotics on apoptosis markers in aggressive periodontitis
Oral Diseases Jan 10, 2019
Aral K, et al. - Authors estimated 26 subjects to assess 6-month clinical consequences comparable to apoptosis of one-stage full-mouth disinfection (OSFMD) and systemic antibiotics (SA) in the treatment of generalized aggressive periodontitis (GAgP). They collected gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) from candidates at baseline, and 3 and 6 months after periodontal therapy and measured the levels of p53, caspase-3, TNF-α, TRAIL, IL-1β, and IL-10 in GCF through ELISA. They observed no impact of OSFMD plus SA treatment on TRAIL in GCF, but it enhanced the clinical periodontal parameters up to 6 months, differentially regulating the apoptotic markers caspase-3 at 3 months and p53 at 6 months.
