Is removal of the pressure regulating balloon necessary after artificial urinary sphincter cuff erosion?

Urology Nov 22, 2017

Rozanski AT, et al. - This paper entailed the characterization of the risk of delayed infectious complications from the retained pressure regulating balloons (PRB) after artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) cuff erosion. No infectious complications were experienced by three-quarters of men with retained PRBs after AUS cuff erosion, with extended follow-up. A link was determined between the removal of infected Space of Retzius (SoR) PRBs with greater operative times and surgical complexity relative to high submuscular (HSM) PRBs.
