College-aged males experience attenuated sweet and salty taste with modest weight gain

The Journal of Nutrition Aug 30, 2017

Noel CA, et al. – This study was performed in a free–living population of young adults to assess the link between weight gain and changes in suprathreshold taste intensity perception. With the reported alterations in taste, noticed in the first year of college, especially in males who experienced a decrement in sweet and salty taste, a modest weight gain was found to be associated. Findings indicated that young–adult males may be susceptible to taste loss when gaining weight.
