Efficacy of interventions to prevent physical and sexual dating violence among adolescents: A systematic review and meta-analysis

JAMA Pediatrics Feb 12, 2022

Researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials investigating the efficacy of prevention programs for physical and sexual teen dating violence.

  • A total of 18 trials including 22,781 adolescents were included.

  • A significant reduction in overall physical and sexual violence was recorded in correlation with the implementation of interventions targeting dating violence among adolescents.

  • However, there was a significant reduction for physical violence only, when examined as separate outcomes.

  • Overall findings support the effectiveness of prevention programs in lowering physical dating violence among adolescents.

  • There was unclear evidence on sexual violence outcomes highlighting the necessity for further research studies.
